How Pet Food Donations Alleviate Strain on Shelters & Pet Families

Food donations are so important to shelters and rescues because food is one of the biggest expense an animal welfare organization faces. When they receive food donations, that means they can allocate resources to helping MORE pets. When families who are struggling are able to obtain food from a pet food pantry via their local shelter, for example, they, too are able to allocate funds to other critical needs. Sometimes, pet parents forgo feeding themselves in order to feed their pets. This heartbreaking scenario is alleviated by generous pet food donations!

All of the dogs we see on Thursday nights live with their humans either in tent encampments or temporary shelters. They don’t have access to healthy dog food or supplies. Today, they are able to pick up healthy dog food every Thursday night and Friday afternoons. They also get collars, harnesses and leashes to help them stay safe. We have a local veterinarian who sponsors a free annual wellness clinic for them as well. We are unable to keep up with the demand for pet food without the Goods Program. We have many loyal supporters, but the demand exceeds our budget. We are so grateful and relieved to receive this help.

Found in a wall during a remodel, Cotton Ball and Q-Tip were brought into the shelter as the mother could not be found. They were hungry and infested with parasites.

These adorable kittens are now eating lots of food on their own and are fat, happy and healthy, living in a foster home with friends and lots of cat trees and toys as they await their forever home. Thanks to the donation of food and more, these sweethearts are living her best life with lots of enrichment while growing big and strong. The donations have also helped free up funds to make the vet care possible!
